Nilsson the Gnome has a problem. His boat was destroyed by an angry sky, and he needs to build a new one.
Over the course of one day, to get the help and materials he needs, he meets and makes deals with ten different characters. In return, he offers each one a wish.
Many of the characters who Nilsson meets will be familiar to the reader as they come from a variety of fairy tales, Greek mythology and classics, and legends.
Much of the humor in the story comes from Nilsson’s cleverness. He has a knack for reading people and knowing how to choose words that almost tricks them into being agreeable. Since each character is different, he uses a different strategy with each one!
Author’s Note
Would you like to learn how to write your own story? Here’s the secret: It’s all about mapping out the story BEFORE you start to write. Why? Well, an author can’t just start writing a story without any idea where he or she is going. Why not? Think about when a road or path splits in two or three directions. How do you know whether to go left, right, or straight? It depends on where you are going, so you need to know where you are going! Having a map would be helpful, too! So when authors want to write a story, it is helpful if they have planned out the entire story, including the ending, before they even start to write it! That plan gives them a map to follow when they are writing. It lets them know where they are going.
If you would like to learn about my planning method, called Story Map Writing, to help you write your own stories, you can check out the fourth quarter of my one-year curriculum titled, “A.S.K. Language Arts.” The curriculum is due to be published in 2026, and you can learn more about it at www.luminepress.com.

Language Arts》。
