Time Machines aren’t real, right? So thought everyone in Miss Lungren’s third grade class as they piled into a mock rendition of one at the local museum. Who knew that their field trip would send them one hundred years into the future on civilized Mars?!

In 2002, Miss Lungren taught her class of third graders how to write a story using a method she called Story Map Writing. She wanted to know if the planning system she taught them would work, so she decided to be one of the students and try out that system herself. And when she was all done, this field trip to Mars had been written!
